About the licensing of "Konjaku-Mojikyo"
There are two types of licensing for Konjaku-Mojikyo.
-
One is the commercial type.
This "Konjaku-Mojikyo", a type of software for
inputting and searching for numerous fonts, has been developed by the
AI-Net Corporation and is sold by Kinokuniya Company Ltd.
Through the profits, this free version has been developed and the original
software has been frequently revised.
The commercial type is much more convenient for searching for characters
and for finding information about the characters.
However, the commercial type can work only on Japanese Windows, although
it "may" work on English Windows2000, if "Locale" is set adequately.
The other is the free type.
The fonts and tools freely available in the pages
of "Mojikyo Institute" and this "Stanford University", can be used freely
and are free of charge to anyone in the world.
However, when you want to use these fonts for commercial purposes (for
example, to make and sell a Chinese dictionary or to write and sell a
research paper, including those available on the web or in a CD-ROM) you
must purchase at least one copy of Commercial type of the
"Konjaku-Mojikyo".
Moreover, it is prohibited to extract any fonts from the Mojikyo Character
Map database by reverse engineering, and to use them for diverse purposes.
It is also prohibited to produce another Font Set by reconstructing
Mojikyo fonts and to redistribute it to others, whether or not it is free
of charge.
Mojikyo fonts must be used as they are in Mojikyo database.
Licensing documents of "Konjaku-Mojikyo" written
in Chinese (BIG5/GB)
, English ,French
and Korean are here.
However, they are only for reference, and only
Japanese licensing
document is legally valid.
The Mojikyo Institute is continually
increasing the fonts free of charge.
Suppose you are studying Taoism, and you
meet a rare character in Taoist texts, what will you do if you cannot find
it even in Mojikyo?
In such case, please immediately become a
Mojikyo Institute member, and report the character you met to us.
(Membership is free.)
Upon receiving the report with evidence,
Mojikyo Institute will produce the font and feed it to its Home Page for
downloading.
